A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph “Hampton Court Edition”

The German luxury marque, A. Lange & Söhne, is located in Germany’s Ore Mountains and dwells within the elevated heights of Haute Horlogerie, crafting watches of the highest order.

The eponymous firm can trace its origins to 1845, when talented watchmaker Ferdinand Adolph Lange moved from Dresden to Glashütte. Lange was given financial incentives to establish his Manufactory in the town on the proviso that he employed 15 apprentices. Today, the town is the epicentre of German watchmaking and plays host to several other watch firms.

A. Lange & Söhne creates products imbued with no-compromise craftsmanship and mechanical virtue. Indeed, the firm’s timepieces stand in comparison with the finest examples of Swiss watchmaking and the German company is well known to many members of the horological cognoscenti.

Like most companies, A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph “Hampton Court Edition” repeatedly strives to boost awareness of its brand by employing various marketing tools. For some time the Saxon firm has aligned its marque with the world of historic, rare and prestigious cars. In 2012, it formed a partnership with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an annual event held on the shores of Lake Como. Likewise, in 2018 the firm became a partner of the Concours of Elegance, staged at Hampton Court Palace on the outskirts of London.

The assembled classic cars exude a high quotient of timeless charm. Swooping lines, imposing grilles and patinated leather seats are much in evidence. Moreover, detail and craftsmanship are ubiquitous at the event at Hampton Court Palace, two characteristics that are also synonymous with the prestigious watch firm.

At the Concours of Elegance 2022, A. Lange & Söhne will present a one-of-a-kind version of the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH that will be auctioned off in Geneva by Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo on 6 November. The proceeds of the unique timepiece, featuring a solid-silver dial and a hand-engraved hinged cuvette, will go to The Prince’s Trust, a youth charity set up by HRH The Prince of Wales.

A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph “Hampton Court Edition” has been a partner of the Concours of Elegance since 2018. This year, it will take place from 2 to 4 September in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace on the outskirts of London. The high-calibre beauty pageant is a venue not only for rare automobiles but also for the exclusive mechanical timepieces crafted by A. Lange & Söhne. For the Glashütte manufactory, the Concours of Elegance provides the ideal backdrop for introducing a very special watch: the unique version of the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH with a hinged cuvette. This exclusive timepiece will be auctioned off on 6 November 2022 at the Geneva Watch Auction XVI for the benefit of The Prince’s Trust. The charitable organisation was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1976 and supports young people aged 11 to 30 to develop essential life skills, get ready for work, and access job opportunities. “We are proud to have the opportunity to support the important work of The Prince’s Trust,” said Wilhelm Schmid. The Lange CEO is convinced that each child, regardless of their upbringing and social background, should have a fair chance of self-fulfilment and a happy future.

Lange are no strangers when it comes to a special one-off timepiece, they know how to get it just right. At the Concours of Elegance 2022, A. Back in 2016, shortly after Concorso d’Eleganza, held each year at Villa d’Este, Lake Como, Lange introduced an updated version of the 1815 Flyback and this time it has not only excited fans of the brand but also those who were yet to make their first Lange purchase. The new 1815 Flyback with Black dial and pulsation scale had set pulses racing, with many venturing as far as to say it is perhaps the perfect Lange. Fast-forward to 2022 and Lange have unveiled the 1815 Flyback Chronograph that many of us can only dream of having. Crafted explicitly for this year’s Concours of Elegance, the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph “Hampton Court Edition” stands out with a unique combination of features: For the first time, a white-gold case meets a black dial with sandstone-coloured numerals and scales. The tachometer scale on the peripheral – which enables the calculation of average speeds – emphasises the historic connection between motor sport and time measurement.
