Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon

Billions of years ago, the universe was created in a rapid expansion from a single point of nearly infinite energy, known as the Big Bang. In 2005, Jean-Claude Biver created a watch that ushered in a new era for Hublot, also called the Big Bang. In the spirit of one of those two events, Hublot created the aptly named Spirit of Big Bang – a more avant-garde expression of the line, featuring a tonneau-shaped multi-layer case in a host of complications.

Today, Hublot is announcing a new addition to that Spirit line: The Hublot spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve in Carbon White.
This watch joins the carbon ranks at Hublot, slotting in alongside the Tourbillon Carbon Black and Carbon Blue. The overall look – despite its name – is really closer to black with white accents than white entirely. The caseback and bezel are crafted from carbon fiber featuring what Hublot calls “white composite inclusions.”

Visually, the entire dial set-up looks to be the byproduct of the Big Bang itself. The hours and minutes are positioned off-center at the three o’clock position, the tourbillon cage at six o’clock, and the power reserve indicator at eight o’clock – all set against the skeletonized mechanics of the movement.

The case measures Hublot spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 42mm in diameter. In terms of the case construction, the white inclusions are made from glass microfibers created as a non-woven fabric (a heat-bonded material) to improve the strength of the composites.
The watch features an open-worked dial with contrasting white-and-black coloring similar to the case aesthetic. You can view the movement through the dial side or through a sapphire exhibition caseback. Both windows reveal the HUB6020 manufacture movement – a skeleton tourbillon which is specially designed to sit within the tonneau case. Just as the name suggests, the watch boasts a power reserve of 115 hours, as well as a five-day indicator on the dial, which in this case may be useful for remembering how many days it’s been since you’ve not worn sweatpants.

Like its predecessors, the Hublot spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve in Carbon White is a manual-wind timepiece. The watch comes on a white-lined rubber strap which can be changed with the brand’s patented “One-Click” system and will be limited to 100 pieces only.
